Why GCC? A Message from Our Director
For years, I have worked worldwide alongside amazing long-term missionaries.
These missionaries were not following the latest fads in modern missions in a quest for “success” or numbers. Instead, they had a burning desire for modern missions to be shaped by the Great Commission coupled with a keen understanding that the local church is the missionary method of Jesus. I’ve been challenged and sharpened by their expertise and skill in difficult places and I’ve longed to give their experiences a voice. These missionaries are the ones the Church needs to hear from.
That dream became a reality in 2021 through a generous grant from some mission-minded visionaries who wanted to see the advance of gospel-focused, church-based missions. In 2022, 60 missionaries gathered to kick off a three-year project that would be from missionaries, for missions.
We called this coalition the Great Commission Council, or GCC. We are working hard to develop statements, definitions, and training materials to help churches, mission agencies, missionaries, and Christian institutions. We will be publishing this work in print, on the web, and with short videos focusing on areas where these missionaries see the need for biblical direction in modern missions.
It’s our hope to serve the Church as the Church seeks to be faithful to the Great Commission.
